Happy Sweetest Day

Observed the 3rd Saturday in the month of October, Sweetest Day observance originated in Cleveland in 1922. Herbert Birch Kingston, a philanthropist and candy company employee wanted to bring happiness into the lives of orphans, shut-ins and others who were forgotten. With the help of friends, he began to distribute candy and small gifts to the underprivileged.

On the first Sweetest Day, movie star Ann Pennington presented 2,200 Cleveland newspaper boys with boxes of candy to express gratitude for their service to the public.
Another popular movie star, Theda Bara, distributed 10,000 boxes of candy to people in Cleveland hospitals and also gave candy to all who came to watch her film in a local theater.

Primarily a regional observance celebrated in the Great Lakes region and the Northeast, Sweetest Day is gradually spreading to other areas of the country. People tend to take the Sweetest Day tradition with them when they move. Ohio is the top state for Sweetest Day sales, followed by Michigan and Illinois. Texas, California and Florida are among the top 10 states in sales.

I live in Illinois and the people here celebrate it as a Man's Valentine's Day. It's a day when women spoil the men and buy them gifts and such. I have never celebrated it before. But I will next year.

In the early 1990s, while Suge Knight's Death Row records dominated hip-hop with artists like Dr. Dre and Tupac, Digable Planets chose the same high road that De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest had already taken -- they all but ignored gangsta culture. MCs Doodlebug, Butterfly, and the sweet-voiced Ladybug combined a positive vibe with jazz samples to create ultra-laid-back joints that provoked head bobbing rather than drive-bys. Their debut, Reachin', invaded college boom boxes and birthed the Top 20 hit and Grammy winner "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)." Some of the tracks on Reachin' follow Tribe's blueprint to the letter, but by the time they released their second record, Blowout Comb, the Digables had clearly found their own sound. Ok...I have been chill. I had a good time in DC. Alot of fun. I have also started school...Im majoring as a Graphic Design. Im loving my Computer Arts class sooo much its really been chill.

I like school. Im at a community college at the moment. Im going to a 4 year college. I absolutely hate my drawing class. My art teacher talks to damn much...the class is 6 hours every Friday.

I have notice that I spend to much fuckin time in the house. And I have a personality that doesn't belong in the house, I should be out going something. I need to go into the city [I live in the suburbs] because the city live is for me. When I say if from another planet I mean it. I do thinks different. I just realized I hate the way I dress. I dress like Im still in middle school, high school or something. So when I get back from my trip back to my hometown area DMV alot of things will change and I mean. I have a creative mind and Im letting shit waste away, and thats not cool at all. I spend to much time checking on peoples blogs myspace and youtube pages than livin my own damn life. Its a damn sham and Im very disappointed in myself. Well like I said things will change. I have a go getters mentality but Im not getting shit. I have a hustlers hustle but I dont wanna hustle.
